About

Ann McDermott is an expert economist and consultant, specialized in agricultural economics, business valuation, and damages.  She has testified frequently in state and federal courts, as well as in mediations and arbitrations.  She has also consulted directly with agribusiness firms and insurance companies on complex matters of crop, orchard, or vineyard valuation and production costs.  Examples of her recent work include the following:

  • Valuing a large joint operation to grow and process pistachios and determining a partner’s business losses from dissolution of the operation.
  • Analyzing and valuing more than 100 claims of crop loss and damage to fields, vineyards, and orchards, arising from drift of an herbicide spray.
  • Valuing damage to a winery from alleged contamination of wines during bottling.

Ms. McDermott has additional professional experience in antitrust analysis and policy and regulatory design.  She has analyzed allegations of antitrust harm, business loss, or intellectual property damages in specific agricultural or agribusiness markets, including shell eggs and egg products, pistachios, fruit juice, seeds, harvesting equipment, and high fructose corn syrup.
